The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's fight against ne'er do wells who would bring illegal drugs into our communities has gone to the dogs. Literally. This is no ordinary dog. This is the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Departments' latest addition to their force. A new K-9 Officer named Max and his handler Lt. T.J. Carinhas.

Sorry, Lt. Carinhas we don't mean to play you as second fiddle to Max but you know how much we love dogs. Especially dogs that work hard to keep our homes, families, and communities safe.

The addition of Lt. Carinhas and his partner Max should aid SMPSO in the war against illegal drugs. K-9 Officer Max is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois from Holland. He was trained in Broussard by Jack Robicheaux of K9 Concepts. You can expect Max and Lt. Carinhas to be working diligently in their patrols along U.S. Highway 90 as part of the St. Mary Sheriff's drug interdiction unit.

Sheriff Blaise Smith, who bears a striking resemblance to a very famous celebrity, said the department was able to acquire K-9 Officer Max through some very generous donations to the sheriff's department.
