Derrick Breaux posted a video of a power plant catching fire in Gueydan after an apparent lightning strike.

The Town of Gueydan is following suit with Lafayette Parish as they issued a state of emergency today (Monday, February 15).

Most of the major festivities surrounding Mardi Gras 2021 have been canceled around Acadiana. Ahem, we said "most," not all.

North Gueydan and other portions of the parish are being evacuated early this morning.

The levees are holding in Gueydan, but the waters are still rising. Mayor Chris Theriot posted this message via the Geuydan Facebook page, urging residents to be cautious and calling for a volunteer evacuation.

Driver impairment is not suspected.
