The Largest Airplane Ever Built Is Expected To Take Flight Soon [Video]
Stratolaunch is bigger than a freakin' football field!
Backed by billionaire Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, Stratolaunch has 28 wheels, six 747 jet engines, and a wingspan of 385 feet, which is you do the math, is longer than a football field. It requires two cockpits and all six 8,940-pound engine jets just to get off the ground.
The video above shows the aircraft doing a practice taxiing exercise. It's basically two planes put together with giant wings. You can really get a feel for how big this thing is when there's a car between the two planes.
It's currently under construction at the Mojave Air & Space Port and is expected to be fully operational by 2020.
