Today on "Lafayette Live" Tom Carroll, Lafayette's Public Works Director said city crews are ramping up for the Mardi Gras festivities.  More than five thousand metal barricades and 120 port-a-lets will be deployed beginning today.

Crews will have all the barricades in place by this Saturday before the Krewe of Rio parade and then removed before Sunday.  The barricades will be deployed again next Thursday and remain in place on the four mile route through Mardi Gras night.

Carroll said in addition to the barricades and port-a-lets a total of seven 30 yard rolling dumpsters will be used by city sanitation crews to clean the parade route after each parade.
