The death of several members of a family on their way to Disney World could have been prevented, according to Louisiana State Police I spokesperson Brooks David.

"What we ask people to do, especially on long trips like that, is plan out your trip," David said. "Split up your time."

That family's 16-year-old son was at the wheel when he fell asleep and drove off the road. Six of the eight occupants of the vehicle were ejected from the vehicle, and his parents and three of his siblings were killed.

"Tired driving is the same as impaired driving," David added. "Your reaction time is a lot slower."

Police ultimately dismissed the charges against the teen, saying he had suffered enough.
