40-year-old Gilberto Del Rio Herrera and 45-year-old David Cruz-Perez, both of Mexico, have been sentenced to prison after their criminal pasts caught up with them.

Herrera has been sentenced to 39 months in prison for re-entering the United States illegally. U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says La. State Police arrested him in December of 2012, charging him with hit and run after an accident in Lafayette Parish. Criminal records say Herrera had been previously deported to Mexico four times and was convicted of cocaine possession in Texas in 1999. Herrera re-entered the country in August of 2012.

Cruz-Perez was sentenced to 16 months in prison for illegally re-entering the country. He was arrested by the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office in 2012 for aggravated second degree battery and was previously removed in August of 2004. U.S. Attorney Finley says Cruz-Perez re-entered the country on March 11, 2013.
