Two-Year Old Audit Uncovers Violations At Jeanerette City Hall
The City of Jeanerette earned a "C" rating from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's office for an audit for the 2014 fiscal year.
A report released this morning listed several issues that were found within Jeanerette's City Hall.
First, the General Fund budget that was adopted (by ordinance) for the 2013-2014 fiscal year was not balanced. Then, the report said the city failed to publish the budget in the local newspaper. City officials also failed to give public notice of a hearing on the budget.
Both of those oversights were violation of state law.
Other findings against the city included in the report were:
- Written policies and procedures did not cover all of the City’s critical business and financial operations.
- Accounting duties were not adequately segregated between employees.
- Bank statements had not been reconciled since June 30, 2012.
The report stated city officials have begun steps to address the issues reported in the audit.
