Two men from Vermilion Parish were arrested this week after a multi-agency investigation into cybercrimes.

Members of the Cyber Crime Unit from Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry's office arrested 31-year-old Cory James Dupuis of Kaplan along with 30-year-old Joshua Kyle Griffith for possession of child pornography.

Landry says, via press release, that Griffith is facing ten counts and Dupuis is facing four counts of possession of child pornography involving children under the age of thirteen.

Louisiana Attorney General says that the arrests of these men just happened to coincide with the day he sent off a letter to the CEO of Netflix to complain about the movie, "Cuties". The movie is a controversial coming of age moving featuring several pre-pubescent girls. The show is so controversial that droves of Netflix subscribers have canceled their monthly subscriptions in protest.

Landry says he was prompted to write the letter to express to Netflix officials that in his mind, these types of shows "whet the appetites of those who wish to harm our children in the most unimaginable way." Landry goes on to say that he think these types of productions ending up trying to normalize terrible behavior. Here's what he said,

By airing 'Cuties' on such a large platform-Netflix is effectively normalizing horrific crimes on our most vulnerable and further emboldening manufacturers, possessors, and distributors of child pornography. They should take it down immediately.

In addition, the Louisiana Attorney General says he will continue to support the men and women of his agency who work tirelessly to stop people who hurt children. He says he will continue to put as many resources as possible into combating crimes against children.

Several agencies joined the AG's Cyber Crime Unit in working on this case, and they include the following:

  • Louisiana Bureau of Investigation
  • Abbeville Police Department
  • Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office
  • Homeland Security
  • Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office

AG Landry says many people think that child pornography is a victimless crime, but he has told Kpel the following on a repeated basis:

Every time a child sexual abuse image or video is viewed, that child is re-victimized. So my office and I will continue to do all we legally can to protect those children from further harm.
