BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Authorities say Baker police caught a woman suspect of stealing more than $50,000 from a woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Police say 29-year-old Faye Cooper Smith, of Baker, was arrested Sunday and booked on charges of felony theft, forgery and monetary instrument abuse.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L'Jean McKneely says Smith and 31-year-old Dustin Gant are accused of entering the woman's home about four months ago under the guise that they'd complete some odd jobs.

Instead, McKneely says they allegedly stole numerous checks.

Gant was arrested by East Baton Rouge Sheriff Deputies on Friday after a brief foot chase.

It was unclear whether the women have attorneys.
