LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — A Louisiana technical college says a $1 million donation from an energy company will be used to give its students hands-on experience in oil and gas work at a new "pipeline academy."

Sowela Technical Community College announced the donation from TC Energy in a Tuesday news release.

The academy at Sowela's Lake Charles campus will include a pipeline training area at the college's Process Technology Center.

The college says the center will function as a working plant, where students will be required to complete shift work as part of their curriculum.
