Next week, the incomparable Debbie Ray will wrap up more than 40 years of full-time broadcasting in Lafayette. She heads off into semi-retirement after 20+ years on the CJ and Debbie Ray Morning Show on 99.9 KTDY.

The thing I would love people to know about her is that Debbie Ray is the ultimate lady. She is pure class even when cheering for her beloved 'black and gold'. She is even nicer in person than on the radio (how is that even possible!) The love she shows to the people closest to her is a model for all to see. And her devotion to her husband Dave is something we should all strive for.

Debbie Ray and I have always had a cool connection. It almost always centers around food, travel and New Orleans. I'm sure we've made CJ mad along the way-- throwing off the show timing because we were talking about our favorite dishes at Galatoire's, McKenzie's Bakery Buttermilk Drops or Parkway Bakery poboys.

I could go on and on, but all I can say is that we're going to miss seeing Debbie Ray in the Townsquare Media halls dark and early every morning. It's only fitting, that I wish her the best in retirement with one of my favorite New Orleans traditions: The Twelve Yats of Christmas. Wishing you many years of northern lights and lots of laughter, my friend.
