ACADIA PARISH, La. (KPEL) -- Residents in Acadia Parish are bracing for more flooding as water levels continue to rise and as more rain is expected Sunday. Worsening conditions are forcing sheriff's office officials to ask motorists to stay off some major streets.

Through its Facebook page and through a Nixle announcement, sheriff's officials are urging motorists to avoid Hwy. 97 near the Jenke Bridge.

The roadway is already flooded, and they say the current there is very rapid. Small vehicles are asked not to pass through the water, officials say.

Officials also announced Sunday morning that the parish's school board will make a decision later in the day as to whether schools will be open Monday.
