Acadian Village Kids Summer Camp Offers Culture and Fun

LARC’s Acadian Village will be holding a summer camp next week, June 15 - 19, and again June 22-26. This camp will give children cultural enhancement and fun.

After the kids have been locked up at home for months, they will be so happy to get out of the house and attend events again. This will give them something fun to do that is also very educational.

Simone Doucet, Operations Manager, told KATC that they will have activities that will teach the children how Acadiana settled. She also said they will teach how the Native Americans who first lived in the area taught the Acadians how to survive in their new home. Doucet says the camp is a merging of the history and culture of these two very different types of people. Doucet says they will also have Grayhawk Perkins, a Trival Storyteller, to share traditions with the campers. They’ll make talking sticks, learn about their spirit animals, and so much more.

The summer camp will be available for two sessions and for two age groups. Ages 6 to 9 year-olds will attend from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. Then ages 10 to 12 year-olds will attend from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. All proceeds of the camp go to LARC, which benefits the disabled community.
