Cajun Cup 10K Runs Through Lafayette on Saturday
I am biased in my opinion of the Geaux Run Cajun Cup 10k and 1mile event. Not only is the event a great personal test but it's a great time. It's like someone threw a party and everyone decided they would run 6.2 miles on their way to the dance.
While the Cajun Cup is a fun event for runners of all abilities, it is much more than just a jaunty jog through the streets of Lafayette. The event is a fundraiser for the U.L. Track and Cross Country teams. It is administered and run by the Cajun Road Runners Club and as far as running events go, it is one of the smoothest and well-run events I have ever been a part of.
Gun time or starting time is set for 7:30 for those who are participating in the 1-mile event. The starter's pistol will fire for the 10k at 8:05. Yes, you can still register for both events but you'll have to get that done by 7 pm today (11/08/19).
Pre and post-race festivities will take place in Downtown Lafayette's Parc San Souci. The course will run from the downtown area along Johnston Street. It will then dive into some neighborhood streets just past Cajundome Boulevard. Following the residential part of the run, the course emerges on to South College and then on to Congress for the journey back into downtown. The finish line will be set up on Jefferson near Vermilion.
Motorists can expect some delays on Johnston Street, North College, and Congress Streets between the hours of 8 am and 11 am especially. While none of the roadways will need to be closed there will be lane closures and some intersections may be temporarily blocked for race traffic.
