UPDATE:

More information is known now about the arrests made in connection with threats against David Thibodaux Magnet Academy and Edgar Martin Middle School.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Valeri Ponseti says that two juvenile were arrest, and they are facing charges of terrorizing after threats were made to the schools as some point in the overnight hours.

Sheriff Mark Garber says,

"The safety of our student is the top priority. We take school threats very seriously, and will take very necessary measure to ensure the security of students and faculty in Lafayette Parish in not compromised.

Apparently a concerned parent called 911 to tell them about threats that were made. This was called in around 10:40 Thursday night.

The parent told investigators that her doctor was warned by a male juvenile not to go to school, and when they were texting about it, this male said he "was in possession of a firearm."

School is open today after threats against David Thibodeaux STEM Academy resulted in several student arrests, according to Principal Jeffery Debetaz. In an email to parents, Debetaz says the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department investigated the threats. The Lafayette Parish School Board was alerted to the arrests early this morning. Specifics about the threats have not yet been made public.
