Congress Begins Debating Next COVID Response Effort This Week
Congress will begin debating what the next round of COVID-19 response legislation will look like this week.
Senator John Kennedy says it’s still unclear what this round of aid may look like, but he doubts it will be as broad as past COVID stimulus bills were.
“I predict if we have another bill it will be targeted and based on the lessons we learned from the four other bills,” says Kennedy.
Kennedy says he’s concerned about the rate of spending on COVID economic bills and says the only way for the economy to survive is for Americans to get back to work.
“We don’t’ have enough money, we can’t borrow enough money to buy the American economy. We have spent so much money we are going to run out of digits here if we are not careful,” says Kennedy.
While there’s still a lot up in the air as to the details of the next package, Kennedy says he is confident the House Democrat crafted three trillion dollar HEROES Act will not see hit the President’s desk.
“It has a lot more to do with making America a Marxist country than it does with fighting the coronavirus,” says Kennedy.
The nation is also two weeks away from enhanced federal unemployment and rental assistance lapsing and Congress is still hashing out if they’ll renew the program, and if so, what it would look like. Democrats are pushing to renew those programs through December, Republicans are seeking to limit benefits so that people can’t be paid more on unemployment than if they were working.
