Dr. Martha Whyte, Regional Director of the Louisiana Department of Public Health and recovered COVID 19 patient David Langston talk with 101.7 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about their experiences with the virus.

Whyte tells KEEL listeners the story of her husband's bout with the illness and how Langston, who previously had the illness, donated antibody plasma that was the cornerstone of the recovery of Whyte's spouse.

"David and I met over the phone when he was first diagnosed," Whyte says, "Then when my husband became sick, he said to me, 'I want to give him my antibodies.' From there we followed the protocol, he was a (blood type) match. He's my hero, because my husband wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him."

Langston reponds to Whyte's compliments in kind. "It was...the silver lining in the cloud," says Langston, who was the first confirmed Coronavirus case Caddo Parish, "At the time I got this, there were very few people who had it and I was very upset. Why me, of all people? But I got over it fairly easy and I was able to help somebody."

And Langston adds that he is continuing to help through regular plasma donations. "I'm going to continue giving my plasma. I have the antibodies and hopefully I've helped some folks who maybe needed a little boost."

And Dr. Whyte says that her husband's health continues to improve. "Fifty days without moving a muscle (and) forty days on a ventilator and now he's up and around and walking without a walker. He's truly a miracle!"
