Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' Deidre Lockhart, local spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development gave an update on Highway 90 construction.

Lockhart said construction of a new third lane for Highway 90 between Pinhook Road in Lafayette and the Broussard overpass should be completed by December of this year.  According to Lockhart adding another lane to each direction of travel will help to ease congestion and should help traffic flow during peak travel hours.

In addition to widening of Highway 90, new J-turns have been installed along that same stretch of highway.  Lockhart said,

While the extra travel lanes will facilitate traffic flow, the J-turns will add another dimension of safety for drivers.  These J-turns will help to prevent head-on collisions as well as side collisions when crossing traffic lanes.
