With just a little over a month left before Festival International takes over Downtown Lafayette, organizers are now working to recruit volunteers for the annual event that has been voted the number one world music festival.

Apiyo Obala from Festival International said the more than 2,000 volunteers who staff the popular music festival help to keep the event free of charge.

"Those are the people who are working behind the scenes to make sure our festivalgoers have the best experience possible," Obala said.

Volunteers work in all areas, including stage security, ticket and beverage sales, booth sales, arts and crafts, and a host of other areas, Obala said. Almost anyone of any age has volunteered for the festival, such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Obala said.

If you'd like to volunteer to work for Festival International, head to their website, www.festivalinternational.com.

Free parking will be provided at Cajun Field by Service Cadillac, and Lafayette Consolidated Government will provide a free shuttle service from the stadium to Downtown Lafayette.
