With hurricane season now underway, Chef Patrick Mould said everyone should "try to prepare ahead of time when it comes to food and water."

Mould, who joined "Nathan & Bernie in the Morning," said you should create a shopping list of items you would need during a hurricane, but he said you should get those items before the threat of a storm.

"If you plan ahead...you can avoid the big rush," Mould said.

During a hurricane, Mould suggested lowering the temperature on your refrigerator so that you can preserve your food longer in the event of a power outage. He also suggested keeping a portable container of non-perishable food and keep it stored in your car or another location.

Also, if you suspect food may have come into contact with flood waters, throw it out.
