Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin Released From Prison
Convicted former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was released from federal prison early due to COVID-19 concerns. Family members confirmed Nagin was released to his home in the Dallas area. It comes after U.S. Attorney General William Barr issued a policy ordering federal prisons to enact mitigation measures at low to medium-security facilities.
Nagin was serving a 10-year sentence after his 2014 conviction for bribery, money laundering, and tax evasion. He had been at a federal prison camp in Texarkana where he fit the criteria for early release because he served most of his sentence and had no prior criminal convictions.
