(KTDY) - We always say that we won't become our parents, but as you age, you can't help but notice a few signs that you are leaving your youth years behind

As we age, our views and preferences change, and that's fine. However, if you slow down and evaluate the changes in your life as you approach your middle-aged years, you'll find you're becoming more like your parents.

So, let's take a look at five signs that you are aging and leaving your youth behind

I'll start with a very obvious sign that you're getting older. Your choice in music begins to change, and much of the new music out just doesn't seem to impress you. I've heard middle-aged people for years complain about current music, and that's fine because they are getting older.

Let me add that while shopping, you start to notice that much of the music played in stores is from your childhood, and you begin to enjoy the bangers while out shopping.

Next, as you begin to age, you start to notice that you're drinking more and more coffee. Personally, I never liked coffee until years after graduating college, but like you, I found myself needing something to help me start my day, and here we are.

Once you hit the middle-aged years, you soon realize that coffee can be your best friend in the morning or midday.

Next, as you age, you begin to invest in things like a home. Well, with that comes your desire to keep up your lawn and yard.  As a kid or teenager, you couldn't care less about the grass in your yard, but that all changes as you age.

You will actually find yourself following the weather forecasts so that you can plan on when to get into your yard, and yes, you may even begin to "compete" with your neighbors when it comes to lawn maintenance.

Now we move on from your yard to the inside of your house. As you age, you may notice that you tend to do what your parents did when you were a child: monitor every move from the front of your home.

If you catch yourself rushing to the window anytime you hear something or your security cameras alert you to a movement, you're aging. Your sense of security increases as you age, and that's probably because you have a better understanding of the world you're in.

And lastly, another sign that you are getting older is when you find yourself sitting in front of the television to catch your local news. As a younger person, you are less likely to be invested in current events, but as you age, your interest in news and weather grows.

So, if you find yourself making time at 5, 6, or 10 to catch the local news, you are getting older, and perhaps even wiser.

I'll end with this, it's ok to admit that you are getting older, but in today's world, there are a number of things you can do to still feel young. However, one thing you cannot hide is your habits as you age, and if you slow down and evaluate your lifestyle each time you blow out birthday candles, you'll notice- You're becoming more like your parents.
