Last Week’s Powerful Louisiana Quake

You may recall on Thursday of last week, the same area experienced a stronger magnitude 4.9 earthquake. That is one of the strongest inland earthquakes ever recorded in Louisiana. The tremor was felt as far away as Shreveport.

Details on the Latest Earthquake

The second quake appears to have hit very close to the first quake. The USGS reports the quake registered a magnitude of 4.0 just west of the neighborhood of Carroll along the Red River. According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles.

What Experts Say About the Tremors

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.

Based on the preliminary data, these two quakes were likely felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. We'll update this story as more information is received.
