Confirmed: All U.S. Post Offices to Close for One Day
(KMDL-FM) There are just some things that you should be able to depend on. Things like the Sun rising in the east, the Dallas Cowboys missing the playoffs, and people overthinking internet stories based on a headline, but we don't expect our postal system to shut all the way down. Well, they are.
In fact, during this confirmed one-day shutdown, the only service that will be operating under the official banner of the United States Postal Service is Priority Mail Service. And the only reason that's going to be operating is because customers have paid extra for it.

Was the Postal Service Affected By the Government Shutdown?
We realize the words "shutdown" and "government entity" seem to go together lately, but remember, the United States Postal Service was not affected by the recent government shutdown. The USPS is an independent agency and is self-funded through the sale of its products and services.

Postal patrons should not be alarmed by the fact that the post office lobbies will be closed around the country and that home mail delivery will be shuttered for the day. This kind of "work stoppage" is actually quite normal for the Post Office.
Why Are All Louisiana Post Offices Closing for One Day?
Here's where the "people overthinking internet stories" because of a headline statement comes into play. You see, the Postal Service actually shuts down 11 days over the course of a calendar year. The next time the entire Postal Service will shut down will be on Thursday, November 27th. You might know that day better this year as Thanksgiving Day.
I think we all just did the Homer Simpson D'oh, didn't we?
Okay, here are the other postal holidays for you to add to your calendar so you don't forget and show up when they've got the lights turned out.
Thursday, Jan. 1- New Year’s Day
Monday, Jan. 19 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Monday, Feb. 16 – Presidents Day
Monday, May 25 – Memorial Day
Friday, June 19 – Juneteenth
Friday, July 3 – Independence Day (July 4th holiday observed on Friday since it falls on a Saturday)

You can still buy stamps at kiosks on those days, and you should still have access to your P.O. Box and be able to drop mail off for delivery in designated drop boxes, but other postal services on those days will be curtailed.
