(KMDL-FM) For the weary traveler, the bleary-eyed beach driver, the overworked with nothing to cook at home, that bright yellow sign is like a gift from above. Of course, we're speaking of the classic black and yellow, and usually backlit beacon that most of us are familiar with as a Waffle House sign.

In Louisiana, there are 99 locations of Waffle House, in Texas, that number jumps to 121, and whether you're placing an order for a pecan waffle in Patterson, Pierre Part, or Ponchatula in Louisiana.  Or you are getting scattered, smothered, and covered in Stephenville, Southlake, or Carthage, Texas, we have some exciting news for you.

You might recall a few months back, Waffle House made headlines as they were one of the first national chains to announce a surcharge on dishes made with eggs. You probably recall when egg prices were through the roof, and since Waffle House's profit margins are pretty tight, the company had to do something to keep from losing money on every breakfast plate they made.

Why Did Waffle House Impose a .50 Cent Surcharge on Egg Dishes?

I think most of us understood why Waffle House had to tack on that .50-cent surcharge. We didn't like it, but we accepted it, and I don't think Waffle House suffered too much of a pushback or drop in business. I am sure many of you, like me, felt that once the higher egg price issue was solved, the company would just keep the surcharge in place and make some extra profit.

We should all be ashamed for thinking that about Waffle House. They're not just a restaurant called Waffle House, they are a "Waffle Home". And when you're home, you treat people differently, and that means the .50-cent egg surcharge has now been lifted from your Waffle House bill.

The company actually made the announcement on June 2nd, but most of us were concerned with other things and didn't notice.

And just like that, the great egg price debacle of 2024/2025 has come to an end. Since a lot of you will be traveling over the July 4th holiday, we wanted you to know. And for those establishments that felt the need to take a jab at Waffle House, we're looking at you, Cracker Barrel. I hope that made you feel better.

Waffle House True to Its Word: Egg Surcharge is Lifted

I guess for some businesses, the only way they can lift themselves up is by cutting someone else down. And before you crack wise on Waffle House, maybe improve your service, because my last two Cracker Barrel experiences have been the stuff of TripAdvisor one-star reviews.

So, that's your good news for this day. Egg prices are down, and Waffle House was true to their word; they said they'd remove the surcharge when the prices dropped, and they did. Now, if we can just get the dining rooms to open up during the all-night hours on weekends, that would be great.
