Who doesn't love Christmas? Who doesn't love Gumbo? Who won't be in Jennings this Saturday when that town hosts their annual Christmas and Gumbo Festival? Talk about a gathering of good friends where no one should walk away unhappy or hungry.

The event is set for this Saturday at Founders Park. That's the park that's right there on Main Street. This year's celebration is going to be a good one with teams competing to earn your votes in the gumbo cook-off. Plus there will be a plethora of live entertainment opportunities for you to enjoy.

Did we mention there would also be a Christmas parade complete with an appearance by Santa? There will be. The evening will also wrap up with a bang as a big fireworks display is planned.

Here's the timetable of events:

The festival opens at noon with live music from Bubba Hebert & The New Morse Playboys. At 4 pm the gumbo cook-off judging takes place. The Christmas parade will roll beginning at 5 pm. The fireworks will round out the festival at about 8 pm.

Admission is free and the event is supported by the City of Jennings. I for one have been looking forward to a Saturday celebration where I don't have to cook, I get to listen to great music, I can enjoy a parade and then watch stuff get blown up. Yeah, that's what I call the Christmas Spirit.
