The solemn Good Friday service being held this afternoon was interrupted at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Robley Drive in Lafayette.

There were reports of someone on the church property toting a rifle, but Lafayette police said it was a false alarm. The supposed threat was said to be a parishioner.

Police ordered the evacuation out of an abundance of caution. Members of the congregation said the Rev. Howard Blessing told parishioners to leave the property.

The Good Friday fish fry at the church has resumed as originally scheduled.
