Louisiana's Third District Congressman Clay Higgins has announced, via press release, that Lafayette and Lake Charles will be getting grant money to help with COVID-19 response efforts since March.

Lafayette will be getting $1,392,777 in Community Development Block Grants, and Lake Charles will be getting $610,439 with all of it coming from the CARES Act.

There have been major changes to the money that local governments have had to expend when it comes to paying for expenses associated with response to the virus.

Higgins says,

Local government resources have been stretched thin due to the COVID-19 economic shutdowns, the downturn in the oil and gas industry, and now with Hurricane Laura. This investment will provide Lafayette and Lake Charles with flexible funding, and allows our local communities to direct resources where they are most needed. We will continue working with our federal and state partners to secure additional resources for Louisiana's recovery.

Higgins adds the funds will be available to these two municipalities to use for other purposes as well.
