Lafayette Mayor-President Boulet Announces State of Emergency Ahead of Tropical Storm Francine
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Lafayette Parish Mayor-President Monique Boulet is declaring a state of emergency for the parish, ahead of an impending possible hurricane later this week.
Boulet will also be holding a press conference Monday afternoon detailing Lafayette Consolidated Government's preparations.
"Given the imminent threat of Tropical Storm Francine, Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet has officially declared a state of emergency for Lafayette Parish this September 9, 2024, at 10:45 a.m.," LCG said in a statement.
An official press conference held by the Mayor-President and local officials will be held this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with a live broadcast via the LCG Facebook page here.

DECLARATION OF STATE OF LOCAL DISASTER AND/OR EMERGENCY FOR LAFAYETTE PARISH, LOUISIANA
WHEREAS, Lafayette Parish is faced with the threat of widespread damage, injury and/or loss of life or property resulting from severe weather caused by Hurricane (or, if appropriate, Tropical Disturbance, Tropical Storm or Tropical Depression) Francine; and
WHEREAS, immediate emergency actions are required to minimize the effects of this severe weather; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor-President of the Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government
("LCG"), as authorized by Louisiana law, including but not limited to the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act (La. R.S. 29:721, et seg.) as well as any applicable provision of the LCG Home Rule Charter, is authorized to declare a state of local disaster and/or emergency for Lafayette Parish under these circumstances; and accordingly
NOW, THEREFORE, Monique B. Boulet, Mayor-President for LCG, hereby declares that a state of local disaster and/or emergency for Lafayette Parish, Louisiana exists and declares the same under the aforesaid authority.
In further response to this declared disaster and/or emergency, the Mayor-President of LCG further (a) suspends customary local procurement procedures as necessary to ensure the health, safety and welfare needs of the people and property of Lafayette Parish, and (b) shall be vested with all powers and authorities specified in La. RS.. 29:727F.
