Lafayette, LA – A shooting incident in the 2100 block of Johnston Street has led to an active investigation by the Lafayette Police Department, and it has also led to traffic disruptions near Cajundome Boulevard. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday night (Feb. 9), and officials have confirmed that two victims have been located.

UPDATE:

Lafayette Police have released additional details regarding the fatal shooting that occurred on Johnston Street. Investigators say the incident involved a domestic dispute inside a white SUV traveling southbound in the 2300 block of Johnston Street.

During the altercation, Kevin Brown (60, of New Iberia) fatally shot his wife, Shentell Brown (47, of New Iberia), before turning the gun on himself. Kevin Brown later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Two children were in the back seat at the time of the incident; one was able to flag down a passing motorist, while the other sustained minor injuries after being struck by another vehicle.

This investigation remains ongoing.

The disturbance affected traffic in the area. Motorists traveling along Johnston Street near Cajundome Boulevard experienced delays as police worked to secure the scene and investigate the incident.
