Even before the recent Connecticut school shootings NewsTalk 96.5 KPEL had arranged to interview Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper today to discuss school security.  Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' Dr. Cooper said plans are being made to better secure school campuses with additional resource officers and surveillance video cameras.

When asked to comment on the Connecticut shootings Dr. Cooper said,

You can plan and you should, but you can't plan for every eventuality.  If someone wants to get into a school he will.

We asked Dr. Cooper if he thought teachers should be armed and he replied,

I don't think that is such a good idea.  We should make campuses as secure as we can with even simple steps like insuring that all classrooms lock from the inside but I don't think arming teachers is the answer.
