BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 45-year-old Baton Rouge man has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the September 21st shooting death of a homeless man.

Police have said Thomas Fayard was involved in a more-than-three-hour standoff with law enforcement shortly after 31-year-old Douglas Arrington was found shot near a driveway across the street from Fayard's home. Arrington died at a local hospital.

The Advocate reports investigators believe Fayard and Arrington had some sort of confrontation and altercation before the shooting.

Fayard, who remains in custody, is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing January 19th.

Fayard's attorney, Robert Hairford, said he hopes to get his client released so he can assist in his defense.
