In an effort to help keep customers safe, McDonald's has announced that for the time being, they are discontinuing their self-serve drink machines.

The change will take place at all 14,000 McDonald's location across the U.S. according to arklatexhomepage.com.

McDonald's recently released a 59 page document outlining changes restaurant's will be making as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The official guidelines in reference to the self-serve drink machines states “beverage bars will remain closed or sectioned off and staffed in restaurants.”

According to arklatexhomepage.com the temporary suspension of self-serve drink machines is 1 of "50 changes in its processes to ensure social distancing and stronger hygiene measures."

Sometimes, a genie like this can be difficult to put back into the bottle. Will unlimited, self-serve drinks become a permanent thing of the past? I would think once the positive financial impact hits the company's bottom line, it will be something that is seriously considered.

However, McDonald's is only implementing this change in an effort of customer safety, so I'm sure this beloved option will be something that returns as soon as it's deemed safe to do so.
