The Louisiana State Police arrested the Mermentau Police Chief yesterday after an investigation by their detectives.

LSP investigators started looking into the actions of Chief Amos J. Crader Sr. after allegations were lodged against the man with the Acadia Parish District Attorney's Office.

According to State Police, Crader created something called the Mermentau Police Officers Association bank account.

It has now been alleged that on at least three separate occasions, Crader took money from that account for his own personal use.

Crader was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail Thursday on three counts of malfeasance in office and three counts of theft under $500.
