Military Suicides Drop; Unclear Why
WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense officials say military suicides have dropped by more than 22 percent this year, but they're reluctant to give credit to detection and prevention efforts.
Officials say they don't fully understand why troops commit suicide, and since many who've taken their lives in recent years had never served on the warfront, officials are not attributing the decrease to the end of the Iraq war and the drawdown in Afghanistan.
