Opelousas Police are looking for a man that they say ran away while he was being questioned.  During a patrol, police say that 24-year-old Jacorey Riggs was seen throwing away a plastic bag, that they thought contained marijuana.  Grabbing the bag as evidence, they then stopped and questioned Riggs, who ran from officers, leaving his car and his 3-year-old daughter behind.  Police decided not to chase him at the time so they could protect the little girl at the scene.

The mother of the little girl came to the scene to pick up the child after being contacted by Child Protection Services.

Riggs is still on the loose and when he is found, he faces charges, including Possession of Schedule I drugs, possession of those drugs in the presence of a minor, resisting an officer and child abandonment.

Opelousas Police say anyone aiding Jacorey Riggs in eluding capture will also face criminal charges.

Anyone with additional with tips should contact the Opelousas Police Department at (337)948-2500 or email them at crimetips@opelousaspd.com.
