Authorities have identified Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old former Ivy League student and activist, as the primary person of interest in the execution of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione, described as a tech-savvy former valedictorian and anti-capitalist, was apprehended earlier today at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Mangione's arrest follows intense investigation into Thompson's assassination. Law enforcement sources say Mangione was found carrying a "ghost gun" — an untraceable firearm — as well as a manifesto expressing grievances against the healthcare industry. The manifesto reportedly detailed his disdain for corporate structures and pharmaceutical reliance, echoing sentiments shared on his social media accounts, including quotes from infamous "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski.

A quote attributed to Kaczynski and liked by Mangione reads:
"Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy, then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness... Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed, modern society gives them antidepressant drugs."

Mangione's online presence includes an active X profile under the handle @PepMangione and an Instagram account (@luigi.from.fiji), both of which are being scrubbed by police.

Authorities allege Mangione traveled to Altoona via Greyhound bus and used a fake ID to check into a local hostel — the same ID reportedly tied to evidence recovered from the crime scene.

Mangione has not yet been formally charged but remains in custody. The investigation is ongoing, with officials working to determine whether Mangione acted alone or as part of a larger movement.

This is a developing story; more details will be provided as they become available.
