The members of the newly formed Lafayette Criminal Justice Committee say they have some concerns about the jail population, staffing and courthouse renovations over the next year.

They are worried that all of these issues will have a negative impact on local law enforcement staffing.

Right now, the Lafayette Parish Courthouse is in the middle of a make renovation project. Sheriff Mike Neustrom says in the past overcrowding at the jail was an issue, and he's worried that unforeseen issues or budget concerns might make it a concern for the future.

Both of the issues are of concern to the Lafayette Criminal Justice Committee, and they say they will have to continue to monitor the situation.

Neustrom heads up the committee, and he says the goal of the committee is to handle any issues that might affect the organization before the problems grow larger.
