A man who was wounded in a late afternoon shooting in Rayne had to be airlifted to Lafayette General. Chief Carroll Stelly said shots rang out near the intersection of West Jeff Davis and Bailey Avenue shortly before 4PM. The victim was a black male who had one gunshot wound to the leg. His identity and current condition have not been released.

If anyone has information about the shooting are asked to call Rayne PD at 334-2415 or the Acadia Crimestoppers tip line at 337-789-TIPS. They can also download and use the anonymous P3 smartphone application.  Via either method, callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
