California introduced new legislation this week that could change the lives of rescue dogs across the state.

The new law forces pet stores to only sell animals from animal shelters or rescue organizations.

Pet stores found not in compliance with this law will face a 500$ fine.

While this new law does not bar breeders from continuing their business, California lawmakers hope to deter the practice of puppy mills across the state.
