Due to the possibility of flooding in some areas of St. Martin Parish, residents are being asked to prepare their homes and yards before flooding becomes imminent.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Maj. Ginny Higgins listed hazardous materials such as gas cans, paint cans, propane canisters and the like, as important items to be secured before possible flood waters reach homes.

Higgins also suggested that residents who would want to remove items from their homes in fear of damage do so within the next couple of days rather than waiting until flood waters approach residences.

Items such as lawn chairs, patio furniture, swings, children's toys, barbecue pits, etc. should also be secured.

Any updates or information regarding the potential flood event will be released as it becomes available. Information can be accessed on Facebook through the St. Martin Parish Office Of Homeland Security and the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office.
