The Louisiana State Police's Special Victims Unit arrested a man who was employed as a deputy with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon says that 42-year-old Bryan Kibodeaux's employment was terminated yesterday once he was made aware of the man's arrest in connection with a case involving a juvenile and rape.

The Sheriff issued this statement today,

In law enforcement we are held to a higher standard by the public with regard to adherence to the laws of our state. This higher standard includes what the public expects of us both on and off the job, and rightly so. I think it is important to mention that this deputy was assigned to the parish jail and although the arrest and criminal charges are NOT related to anything with the office of Sheriff nor the deputy's work at the parish jail. We understand the importance of public safety, taking immediate action by terminating Bryan Kibodeaux's employement with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office. As a parent, my heart hurts over this and my final thought is to pray for the victim and family.

Kibodeaux has been arrested on the following charges:

  • First degree rape
  • Four counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile
  • Four counts of sexual battery

The invesitgation into Kibodeaux began January 24 after a complaint involving a juvenile was made.
