A St. Martinville man has been arrested on a warrant following a series of events that occurred, Wednesday. A Deputy with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call regarding a stalled vehicle near Old Spanish Trail Hwy. and Smede Hwy., in Cade, LA.

Upon arrival, the Deputy located the unoccupied vehicle and observed significant damage that appeared to have recently been sustained to the vehicle, based upon evidence found at the scene. A male subject subsequently approached the Deputy on foot and stated the vehicle belonged to him.
Following further investigation into the incident, the Deputy discovered that the male subject had been involved in a domestic disturbance at a St. Martinville residence earlier that morning. During the disturbance, the subject attempted to run over the victim twice, striking the victim with the vehicle. While attempting to strike the victim the second time, the subject also struck a metal building causing severe damage to the structure. After the altercation with the victim, the subject fled the scene and was en route to New Iberia when the vehicle became disabled at Old Spanish Trail Hwy., and Smede Hwy.

The victim, who sustained severe injuries, was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle prior to the Deputy arriving at the residence in St. Martinville. During the course of the investigation, the subject suffered a medical emergency and was transported by ambulance to a Lafayette hospital where he fled on foot upon arrival at the hospital.

Following an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Deputy secured a Warrant for the subject, who was identified as Hunter Bayard, 27, St. Martinville, LA.
