The new format of the NFL draft is getting mixed reviews, but most sports fans saw it as a welcome few hours of normalcy. Dreams come true. Players cry. It's an all-American tradition.

But ESPN 1420's Steve Peloquin has a different take. As a kid, he skipped school to watch the draft when it was just owners and front office staff and it was on a weekday morning. Obviously, since the 1990s, the NFL Draft has grown into a primetime ratings powerhouse giving football fans just a taste of the coming season.
