SUSLA is Offering Free Tuition and Laptops to Eligible Students

Times are tight.  Maybe tighter now than they ever have been for some folks, especially those trying to start or continue their college education.  Imagine working your way through school in 2020, with all of the temporary (and too often, permanent) closings - part time and/or entry level work that jives with your school schedule is crazy hard to find.

Just making enough to pay your household bills is a struggle - tuition, books, and more add up to be a lot of money that's above and beyond all of that.  Luckily, there's a glimmer of hope for students struggling to come up with a plan to attend Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) this fall.

For those that qualify, SUSLA has announced it will offer free tuition and laptops to students hit hardest by the pandemic.  According to KSLA, the university will use funds given to the school as part of the CARES Act to help bridge the gap for those struggling the most to continue their college career.

SUSLA Chancellor Dr. Rodney Ellis says that the tuition and laptop assistance isn't the only help the university is offering those in need.  Those who enroll by September 6th, can also register for additional funds.  If approved, it would mean additional funds (upwards of $500) that would be given to students to help with other costs related to attending school that they may be having issues with.

In order to qualify, students must:

• Complete and submit a SUSLA admissions application for the fall semester by August 7th of this year
• Complete course registration for at least 12 credit hours for the full fall semester by August 7th of this year
• Attend classes and be enrolled through the 14th day of the fall semester

The 1000 tuitions and 500 laptops will be awarded after a "lottery-style" drawing.
