Lafayette, LA (KPEL) - Police captured a teen escapee after he managed to escape from the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center Monday.

Authorities reported that the teen made his getaway by stealing a side-by-side utility vehicle. This prompted a police chase which went through residential areas, and neighborhoods in Lafayette.

According to News 15, law enforcement, including deputies from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, quickly set up a perimeter in an effort to contain the suspect.

The chase came to a halt near River Ranch on Camellia Boulevard and Academy Road. The teen ditched the vehicle and tried to flee on foot; however, officers eventually caught up with him and took him back into custody.

There are no further details regarding how the teen's identity or how he managed to escape from the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center on Monday.
