Town Hall Fight in Oberlin Involved Top Town Officials
It's not that often that Allen Parish Deputies are called to the Town Hall in Oberlin to break up a fight but that's apparently what happened earlier this month. According to a report on KPLC Television's website, two top city officials were involved in an altercation inside the town hall. One of those officials was cited for simple battery.
According to the APSO report, Town Superintendent Daryl Reeves engaged Council Member John Lewis, who was at the city hall to discuss a water bill issue, in a shouting match. Those loud words must have escalated into a physical altercation because when the dust had settled Reeves was cited for simple battery.
Mayor Joseph Manuel did not comment on the matter, calling it an internal affair.
Meanwhile, in other Oberlin Town Hall news, the lobby of that building will be closed for the time being over concerns about the coronavirus. Residents who have business with the city should attempt to conduct that business via phone or online. Those who have payments for utilities or tickets are encouraged to use the dropbox.
City officials do caution those dropping payments off through the dropbox to use a check or money order for their own protection. They do not recommend that you leave cash payments unattended. There has been no timetable offered for when regular business at Oberlin Town Hall will resume.
