Traffic Light Coming To Busy Lafayette Intersection
Many of you have complained to us about Lafayette traffic issues at the intersection of Verot School Road and Vincent Road.
Namely, you've complained to us about the number of crashes that happen at that intersection. Several callers phoned into Lafayette Live with Mayor-President Josh Guillory to say you've seen crashes at that intersection frequently, including two this week.
Now, Lafayette Consolidated Government says they are working to fix that problem.
LCG Traffic, Roads, and Bridges Director Warren Abadie says a new traffic light is coming that intersection soon. According to Abadie, LCG has allocated funding for that traffic light. Abadie says his department will begin installing that traffic light once the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development approves the permit to place the traffic light at that intersection. That approval is needed because Verot School Road is a state highway.
Abadie says he expects DOTD to approve the permit within the next few days. Abadie says work will begin immediately once that permit is granted. According to Abadie, the light installation will take about 60 to 90 days once the project begins.
