UL Hall of Famer Twilet Malcolm Dies

A former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun athlete, and a member of the UL Athletics Hall of Fame, has passed away.

Twilet Malcolm, a former Louisiana women's track & field standout, died on Wednesday, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

An Olympian in the 4X100 for her native Jamaica in 1992 in Barcelona, Malcolm was 50 years of age.

Part of a national championship team at San Jacinto Junior College, Malcom joined the Cajuns in 1990-1991, helping them to a second place finish in the Sun Belt Conference.

After redshirting the following year, Malcolm helped lead UL to both the Sun Belt indoor and outdoor championships.

The first UL women’s track athlete to earn All-America status, after finishing fourth at the NCAA meet in the 100-meter dash in 1993, Malcolm was also the first UL women’s track athlete to be inducted into the UL Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999.

Malcolm still owns school records in the 100 (11.17 seconds), the 200 (22.93), the long jump (20-feet, 10.5 inches), the 4x100 relay (44.80) outdoors as well as indoor records in the 55-meter dash and long jump.

Malcolm is survived by her husband, former Cajun football standout Patrice Alexander, one son, and one daughter.
