Walmart Store Closings – Full List Revealed: Any in Texas?
For a lot of Texas consumers, especially in smaller communities such as Buda, Canyon, Atlanta, Dumas, and Kyle, you just couldn't have "Christmas" without Walmart. The giant retailer made its initial mark in the retail world by setting up shops in smaller communities and serving the needs of those who didn't have the advantage of a nearby shopping mall or vibrant downtown shopping district.
If you've been to a Walmart store anytime in the past week or so you probably would not draw the conclusion that they are "hurting for business". Ever since Thanksgiving, the traffic at the Walmart stores I frequent in my small town has been abundantly bustling with happy shoppers, irritated shoppers, noisy kids, and people who did not check the mirror before they left the house.
The reason for the closures is simple. The company wants to remain financially nimble and that means making cuts at stores and in departments that are or have in the past performed below financial obligations. You might recall in May of 2024 Walmart announced that 51 in-store Health Centers would be closing. However, the store's pharmacies, which do very well, would remain open.
Walmart also closed some of its Neighborhood Market locations earlier this year. Again the reason was lack of performance from the locations in question. The shutdown of a Mobile, Alabama Neighborhood Market resulted in some 80 people receiving a pink slip for the holidays.
Here is where Walmart has already closed stores or will be closing stores in the coming weeks.
In California, Walmart will close the following locations: 605 Fletcher Parkway, El Cajon, 40580 Albrae Street, Fremont, Neighborhood Market at 4080 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay, 2121 Imperial Ave., San Diego, and 2753 E. Eastland Center Drive, West Covina.
In Colorado, the brand will shutter the store at 10400 E. Colfax Avenue in Aurora. In Georgia, Walmart will close two stores. The Ashford Dunwoody Road location in Dunwoody and the Roswell Road location in Marietta.
Walmart has also announced the closing of the Putty Hill Avenue location in Towson Maryland and the South High Street store in Columbus Ohio. The brand will also be closing a Neighborhood Market on West Main Street in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
As of now, there are no plans to shutter any Texas locations. Walmart currently operates 517 locations across Texas.
